Hopefully the reason why you are installing Evident ClearStone Live is for monitoring and managing your data caching, NoSQL, or Java applications. This quick start guide walks you thru the required steps of deploying ECSL into your environment for monitoring your application(s). This is only a quick start guide to walk you thru the minimal steps required to install, deploy, and configure ECSL. For further details and other deployment models, we strongly recommending reading each section of this documentation to understand the features and restrictions. Not all management packs behave the same or provide the same functionality. While some are purely for monitoring, others can control and manipulate the application and data.
- Validate system requirements:
- Minimal hardware: A dual-core server with 4GB free RAM with 1 GB networking
- Operating System: MS Windows Server 2003/2005, MS Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux x86 (RHEL, Suse, CentOS), Sun Solaris 10
- Supported Applications (any one)
- Oracle Coherence
- Memcached
- Cassandra
- Java / JMX
- If you do not have any of these supported applications deployed, then don't proceed further with the deployment. Contact Evident Software for additional information.
- Software download:
- Proceed to the Evident Software product download site.
- Download the main product: Evident ClearStone Live for the desired operating system.
- Download the additional management packs (Oracle Coherence, Memcached, Cassandra) for the applications you would like to manage. These are zip or tar files that are deployed on top of the main product.
- ECSL platform Installation
- Let's start with installing the core ECSL product.
- Proceed with a single server installation.
- There is only one installer binary (install.exe or install.bin). Run this executable as an administrator.
- During the installation, select these modules: Collector, Pipeline Server, and User Interfaces for basic monitoring functionality.
- The Management Plugin Server is only used with certain management packs like Oracle Coherence. Please consult the Oracle Coherence Management Pack for more information.
- The ChronoGraph module is for long term data storage of the collected data. This requires a separate Oracle database supplied by the customer.
- For details on the platform specific installation, please consult the Installation Guide.
- Management Pack Installation
- After ECS is installed , it needs to be equipped with one or more management packs to support the monitored application(s).
- For Oracle Coherence, extract the management pack archive on top of the ECSL installation. For details, proceed to this link.
- For Memcached, extract the management pack archive on top of the ECSL installation. For details, proceed to this link.
- For Cassandra, extract the management pack archive on top of the ECSL installation. For details, proceed to this link.
- Once the contents of the management packs have been extracted, restart the ECSL service(s).
- Configuration
- Optionally configure the ECSL OpCache to avoid any conflicts with other multicast addresses, click here
- Launch the Administration Console to configure ECSL for data collection.
- For details on configuring ECSL to monitor Coherence, please refer to the Oracle Coherence Management Pack documentation.
- For details on configuring ECSL to monitor Memcached, please refer to the Memcached Management Pack documentation.
- For details on configuring ECSL to monitor Cassandra, please refer to the Cassandra Management Pack documentation.
- Once the collection configuration has been saved, restart the ECSL processes.
- User Interface
- After the restart occurs, launch the Real-Time Dashboard to monitor the performance and activity of the application.
