Clearstone for Memcached

The Evident ClearStone Management Pack for Memcached monitors Memcached stats, analyzes them, and manages the real-time performance, capacity, and operational health of business-critical applications running on Memcached. ClearStone deploys within minutes and provides the instant insight and control you need for optimizing business-critical applications.

In real-time visualizations, ClearStone for Memcached presents a wide range of instance stats, as well as Memcached’s Slab Allocation stats. These dynamic visualizations enable IT engineers to quickly determine the efficiency of their Memcached instances in order to ensure that business-critical Web applications perform optimally.

With these statistics available to analyze with ClearStone’s rich visual components, customers can understand trends and identify bottlenecks or memory consumption immediately.

For example, customers using mySQL or any database as Memcached’s backing store can set thresholds on the amount of sets in the Memcached nodes. ClearStone alerts when the Memcached node is querying the backing store too often, breaching the threshold. The alert gives IT engineers the timely notification they need in order to adjust their Memcached environment to consistently deliver the fastest response time to end users.

Get notified when your Memcached servers are evicting items too frequently, or when get/set failures are increasing out of the range of your acceptable KPI limits. With ClearStone, you can be at ease knowing that Memcached stats, performance and health is being monitored 24/7.

Memcached Key-Level Stats

ClearStone now supports the collection of Memcached key-level stats. This feature can greatly improve visibility into an application’s hashing strategy for storing data across multiple Memcached instances. Rather than collect metrics on each and every key (which is very inefficient), ClearStone collects grouped key-level stats based on an application’s own key-naming strategy.

For example, a Web site can include a function for real-time search box suggestions; the application uses the key prefix “SearchBox:” for all data related to the search box suggestion function within their Memcached environment. ClearStone will collect stats for all keys that match the prefix “SearchBox:” to provide an accurate measure on that function’s efficiency with respect to storing and retrieving data from a cluster of Memcached instances.
